Band Camp

Well as the dci season is into full blast and coming to a end within a few weeks. Right about the time championships week start is when we are already into band camp and getting into shape for the high school marching season.

So just wondering when do you guys start band camp/hell week. That's if your young enough. :p

A week from tomorrow.

we did our mini hell week, last week, the big hell week is next week.

freshmen bc and dm camp(for me n my head dm) is the week after this week. me and my head dm are going to ucsd on wednesday.
full band camp is the week after that.

Good ol' Hell Week commences next week for us. It's not too bad for us though, because instead of starting at like 8 and going until like 5 we start at 1 and go until 9.

We go from 1 to 9 too.

We start next week too. 9am-8pm. monday-saturday.

I have leadership camp this week in the mornings(8am to 1pm) then, since I am leadership, have freshman/flags/percussion camp(8am to 5pm) the week after then the next week shall be hell week (8am to 8pm), then three days of music camp

i start tomorrow :( 12-9 for the next two weeks
but i get to go to a DCI show on friday in TN. so i'm happy =D

Ew John. I'm sorry. Long days and Saturday. Ew. That really is a hell week.

Well, I've been going strong everyday for 2 weeks in percussion camp, but tomorrow is the official hell week. :(

I don't know what's so bad about hell week. Just fundamentals, and exercises, running, etc. for about a few hours. And it doesn't stop it just gets shorter when we start to rehearse drill. lol. Maybe I got the wrong definition of hell week...what do you guys do?

Last Friday to last Monday (backwards) was my drumline camp, 8-4. This week is 6-8:30, Mon-Wed music camp, Thurs-Fri freshmen marching camp (but section leaders have to go too. sigh.) The week after that will be our 1-8:30 camp. whee.

Well 9am-8am for 12 days is kinda tiring... then straight back to school.

my definition of hell week- hell.

Well, we go from 8am-9pm. We do music, fundamentals, and get almost the whole show on the field.

ours is worse then a bluestar practice.

I doubt it.

or they're harder than the practices in 07.

I really can't complain about ours. We're going to end up having maybe our first movement on the field two Fridays from now.

DocMcFluhry, do you run two laps around a large building in spit-freezing weather at 7 am? :O

I doubt you rehearse from 7am - 11pm.

I just can't relate to people who are in demanding bands. And ours isn't even terribly easy. But compared to all these and to drum corps, it's like a massage.

We housed the Blue Stars last year. Nice people if you ask me. [offtopic] lol

No we don't rehearse that long, but as i marched with the bluestars in 07, i think i could attest to the amount of energy needed to get through a practice. And jerry, don't you march with the troopers? If so, you guys have a really awesome show this year.

How long do all you guys rehearse during band camp?

I thought the Blue Stars rehearsal was very laid back. No running back to sets, so many water-breaks, ect. But then again, it was the end of the season. And I think their rehearsal is 6am-10pm, I was at school at 6am and their guard was warming up.

Wait Doc how come your aren't marching Bluestars this year?

I marched with the Troopers last year, not this year though. Although, I do agree with you, their show is awesome.

We did a leaders/rookies 3 day week this past week. Introduced marching, and playing, haha.

This week starts the whole thing... everyone will be back (all those sophs and juniors), 1-9 each day.

Then the next week is 1-9, 1-9, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5.
Following week: 8-5, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5(with the parent show at 6:30)

Then the next week school starts.

I guess our practices are pretty standard, though I don't know what "standard" is, haha. We are going to learn our show a bit slower this year, compared to other years. This will definitely benefit us in the long run, because we won't have to clean drill for half the practice, at least as often.

I start two weeks from tomorrow, but the sunday before it starts I have a 9 hour leadership training. After that its 8-12 and 5-9 until the 22nd of August.

its been a week total, 3 days right after school ended, now 2 days coming up.. but its from 9:00 in the morn to 6:00 pm... and me being in the drumline im screwed... out drum teacher has us meet 2 hours befor... so im stuck from about 7:00 am to 6:pm... fun times... make it worse im the section leader for the bass line and my drum teachers nice to everyone exept section leaders... uhg.

Since we don't do competitions, our band camp is merely one week starting on August 25 and goes from 9am-1pm.

Mine starts in about 2 hours and i have 3 hours of sleep...oh god

wow, you guys have some long band camps. back when our band had a band camp it was from like 3 till 6?, and it was only for 1 week

Yea mine is today and tomorrow 9-12 PM and Friday, Monday-Thursday is 7-4PM

next monday

from monday to friday, 8am - 5pm

we do precamp at our school starting august forth, then we actually go to band camp august 17th

we start rehearsals august 5th and 7th then 8-12 the week after then band camp the week after 8-5 putting the entire show on the field in about four days.

In four days?! Man, I'm glad I don't have to do that.

Let me see, we had a mini camp the week after school started, and we have a had a practice every thursday since, this week 11 or so of us went to a leadership/marching/conducting camp for 3 1/2 days, and then we have band camp next week, then a mini camp the week after.

-This week we had pre-camp Mon. through Thurs. 8-12.
-Next week we have band camp Mon. through Friday 8-3 and 6-9.
-Then Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals until November. (also some Wednesday ones too)
-Scattered Friday and Saturday rehearsals until contest season.

Nxt wk starts band camp! Im not actually in the band anymore (grad of 2007) but I am a tech *woot*

Well I am on lunch break from band camp. We finished out opener yesterday 14 sets. We are learning the next song. And it is about 99 degrees...or at least it was before break...my sunburn has a sunburn which also has a sunburn which has a slight case of sunburn. Subway is really good...sorry random(im eating subway for lunch while listening to kick *** 08 Phantom). I have 3 days after today left of band camp...whew fun...and it is sposed to be hotter tomorrow!

you guys are lucky/ band camp doesn't start til next week for me. 8.am. to 9 pm. Mon-Sat.

I start August 2nd then go to august 14.

I have officer training next sunday, and then band camp starts the next day.

At the HS i went to, they started today and school starts the 25th.
For me, I have drumline camp starting the 12th, then i move in on the 17 and start band camp that day.

Mine starts tomorrow. YAY.

My band camp starts August 4th for three weeks. We are starting to do three-a-days! From 8:00am-9:00pm! *woo hoo*

Woohoo 41 sets in the opener!

That's a long opener - depending on how long each set is. Ours is a decent length, but not very complex (drill, music is amazing!).

The weather has certainly not been in our favor the past two days. Ugh.

Really? All we have seen here is extremely bright sunshine, with some clouds here and there, for the past 2 weeks.

The thunder and lightening seems to pop up right when we're getting work done outside.

Each set is about 5-10 counts and the opener itself is 2 minutes and 37 seconds long.

That's not too bad for an opener actually.

I'm afraid I have no idea, I'll probably find out sometime next week when camp starts. But after that i'm afraid i'm not allowed to reveal what we're doing, so you will have to wait. Sorry.

I perfectly understand don't worry we have a similar program.

Yeah, our director wants it to be a suprise for people at our first performance at a competition.
