ok thanks but what was the one b4 that?

I know their ballad was Flower Duet. I'm pretty sure they played 100 Airplanes on a Roof by Phillip Glass, and their opening sequence with the pit was Vespertine Formations

Hurray for Corpsreps!

lol unless Yoyoyo knew it off the top of his head, in which case kudos to him.

That opener was awesome.

Speaking of Philip Glass, I'd love to see a corps take a crack at Koyaanisqatsi, including reflecting the visual style of the film. Time lapse drill, anyone? =)

If I had a recording, I would know what your talking about.

A bit off-topic, but I would really like to see a corps play "Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion" by P.D.Q. Bach (Peter Schlickle). I could TOTALLY see the Velvet Knights pulling it off. If you've ever heard it you know what I mean.

lol... that is one of the most lackadaisical sounding pieces I've ever heard.. but its crazy hard in some parts, which makes it fun for everybody...

We sightread it in band this year. It was soooooo funny

Does anyone know where I can hear a recording of any P. D. Q. Bach stuff.. I have always wanted to hear some of it.

Umm I have a partial recording of Grand Serenade that I guess I can send you... It's some recording from some school's website and not from a CD or anything so I'm pretty sure the performance isn't copyrighted. Joe?

For anyone who liked their opener, has anyone else here seen Esperanza 2004? Not the cleanest show, but I loved this thing! They played Phantom's 07 Opener, Cadet's 07 Closer and October by Whitacre (not in that order). Seriously, amazing show!

Thank you, someone, for proving I'm not the only person in the universe who likes PDQ Bach!

I personally think Cadets might get people to warm to narration by doing "Bach Portrait" (or at least the serious piece it was ripped off from, Copland's "Lincoln Portrait").

good point... maybe if the music itself was more meaningful to the audience, people wouldn't react so badly to the show as a whole... then again, I don't have G.H.'s experience or expertise in directing a corps... or any directing experience for that matter...

Vespertine Formations was by Christopher Deane?

Sam...with me, and I know a few people on DCP feel the same way, it's not the narration we have a problem with. My critique on any show that narrates, at least in drum corps, is that they are using electronics to do it. There were tons of show before 2004 that used speaking just fine without electronics. It was used much more sparingly, and had to be worked in really well so it wasn't missed, but it was used and it worked out fine. Singing too (BAC 2000 is an amazing show!).

That's not really meant to change anyone's opinions or anything...just me throwing in my $.02
