Are we allowed to look them up? I think that would kind of ruin the point, but maybe not.
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
Right.

Test123 1 month ago
Jon V is correct!
Kasey Warren 1 month ago

Test123 gave me the answer sense he's at rehersal. "{Jazz} Man in the Moon" Your turn Jon V.

Jon V 1 month ago

Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Or is it The Cadets? Bold move I just made...
Jon V 1 month ago
yes it is the cadets
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
it should be a corps with fast moving drill that needs it, because yamahas are lighter than dynasty's
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Nice.
Here's my awful odd question: Name the corps who was the only World Champion in history to win without winning a single caption (and the year).
Jerry 1 month ago
Aw man I used to know this...I had a yamaha poster that had all that information.
Colts?
Jerry 1 month ago
Oh, I posted way late, that was for the all-yamaha corps question.
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
No, it wasn't Colts. They haven't won a championship...yet.:)
This is a pretty tough question to answer, BTW...keep trying.
Test123 1 month ago
Cadets?
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
he wants the year as well
Jerry 1 month ago
Didn't you see? I posted the Colts answer way late...it was for the all yamaha question...
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Oops, my bad Jerry...didn't see that earlier...
And sorry, it wasn't Cadets. So that eliminates your choices down...:)
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Alright, so I have to get ready for work and I won't be back on until tomorrow morning.
So if you still think you know the answer...you can post on my wall (or on the topic, it doesn't matter)... I hate for the game to halt since I can't wait for the answer until tomorrow...so if somebody else can post the next question, that would be awesome...
Jerry 1 month ago
Which corps put the first curve on the field?
Test123 1 month ago
Troopers
Jerry 1 month ago
I guess that one was a little obvious...
Test123 1 month ago
Which Corp used the Mickey Mouse Club march in their show, and won finals?
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
Kingsmen 1972
Test123 1 month ago
Yes
Jerry 1 month ago
Which corps based their name off of a train that passed behind their rehearsal field?
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
What's the second highest score in DCI history, and by whom?
Jerry 1 month ago
Scv '89... 98.8
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
Actually two corps tie for that 2nd highest placement.
BD 2003 and SCV 1989.
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
and the other one?
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
tied*
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
yeah...
the question goes to yoyoyo.
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
Who was the first corp to put asymmetrical drill on the field and what year?
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
Jerry your questions answer is South Wind.
Jerry 1 month ago
yoyoyo, SCV 1980
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
Yeah. It's a shame they got 7th that year it was told because the judges weren't prepared to judge asymmetry.
MSeltz 1 month ago
Cavies, the second highest score in DCI history is the Cavaliers in 2002 at Semis, with a 99.05
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
No that was a 99.15 tied for the highest score with the cadets 2005.
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
Oh semis...um well.
MSeltz 1 month ago
hey, he said history :)
Hamfield 1 month ago
What is the current question?
MSeltz 1 month ago
I'm not sure if my answer counts, but either way I'm going to ask a question...
What corps in what year is said to have played so loud at finals that the glass in the press box broke.
Hamfield 1 month ago
hmm...phantom 03? that's my guess
MSeltz 1 month ago
Nope, sorry Hamfield...keep trying guys!
Hamfield 1 month ago
Star 93? lol the bass drum rolls... my speakers will never be the same..
MassacrMan 1 month ago
I wish it was Phantom '03.
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
This is a tough one.
MSeltz 1 month ago
I'm not actually sure if it's written anywhere. I'll give you a hint though...this show was voted into the very first Classic Countdown specifically because they broke the glass (at least, that was the number one reason I was told people voted for this show).
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
1975 Madison Scouts?
BlueCaviesRegiment 1 month ago
1991 Star of Indiana ?
MSeltz 1 month ago
Alright, I fear this one isn't going to get an answer...if anyone replies with "I give up" I'll just post the answer.
If anyone's interested though, this can be answered in under ten minutes on DCP, if you want to ask there.
BlueCaviesRegiment 1 month ago
1976 Blue Devils?
VinnyE 1 month ago
Yoyoyo- actually, the Bridgemen did the very first asymmetric set one year before SCV- it was only one set- they took a big arc and shifted it to one side of the field- technically, the first asymmetric drill ever, although they never get credited for it.
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
Ah I see.
MSeltz 1992 Velvet Knights?
MSeltz 1 month ago
Nah...I'm gonna call it quits on this one.
1980 Spirit. One of the best hornlines ever! Fantastic, loud show if you haven't seen it.
VinnyE 1 month ago
Mseltz-
I know the corps.. but I have to think about it to remember which year ;)
VinnyE 1 month ago
Ugh I was going to say either 1980 or 1984... Was actually watching 1980 Spirit to check when you posted the answer!
VinnyE 1 month ago
OK, since that derailed things a bit, I'll pose a question-
Which Drum Corps Show did Micheal Cesario say "It asks questions as well as makes statements." ?
thsgemb08 1 month ago
93 star of indiana? just a guess, i remember denny d saying that was a 'controversial' show in classic countdown
MSeltz 1 month ago
VinnyE, am I allowed to ask DCP? :)
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
After the question is answered, I will post a new thread for spacing issues. (saves your scroll some energy)
VinnyE 1 month ago
thsgemb08 - no it wasn't 93 star, although you'd think it would be.
MSeltz- If you want to ask DCP, go ahead, you'll probably get the answer very quickly there. HIT- he made the comment in hids commentary in the Finals Broadcast for that year.
Steve Vaughn 1 month ago
I'm going to go with...1999 SCV or at least guess a late 90's SCV show
VinnyE 1 month ago
Steve- still not right...
Another hint- The corps i'm talking about no longer exists...
Kasey Warren 1 month ago
1991 Star of Indiana?
VinnyE 1 month ago
Sorry Cavies, it's not Star at all...
If this one proves too tough, I'll post the answer soemtime in the late morning tomorrow... ;)
Test123 1 month ago
I'm about to e-mail FJM to get to Mike...
Mbassador 1 month ago
is it cavaliers 2002
Yoyoyo 1 month ago
I wanna say 27th Lancers, but it could be the Anaheim Kingsmen. I'm just guessing around...
Stryfe 1 month ago
Mbassador, I'm under the impression the Cavaliers are still around. ;P
The Questioneers from Statement, OH
Mbassador 1 month ago
you're right...i misinterpreted the question.
Stryfe 1 month ago
well, it was less the question than a random piece of information that got answered afterwards. it's all good.
MSeltz 1 month ago
Ok, I'm almost positive it's 27, but I don't know the year. I've narrowed it down to 27 and Freelancers, and I'm pretty sure it's not Freelancers.
VinnyE, I think you're going to win this one
VinnyE 1 month ago
No one has it yet...
Last hint(s) - The corps was from the Southeast US, and never won a title.
VinnyE 1 month ago
No more takers? Well, here's the answer-
1988 SunCoast Sound - Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child Original music, great visual design, and strong storytelling aspect. Probably the strangest ending statement in DCI history (strange in a good/innovative way). SunCoast was a great corps, that always seemed to be stuck in the middle of the pack- they were always innovators and were one of the first corps to really embrace original music specifically written for them. 1989 was their last season out before folding, but most of their creative staff went on to become the backbone for Magic of Orlando who continued their trend of originality. Former Suncoast staff continued to have an influence on DCI as they spread out to other corps (notably a good portion of the visual/guard staff from 92 crossmen were former Suncoast people). In the 1988 PBS broadcast, when Steve Rondinaro and Mike Cesario introduced Suncoast, they were discussing how different and innovative the show was, and Cesario said about the show "It asks questions as well as makes statements." 1988 is a tough year to remember details about- it seemed that Scouts (Suite for Jazz Guitar and Orchestra / MALAGUENUA!) and BD's awe inspiring brass performance overshadowed the memory of nearly every other corps...
VinnyE 1 month ago
OK, easier question to follow up- What DCI corps was famous for their drum feature "Black Market Juggler" in the early 80s?
Sam Doss 1 month ago
just out of curiosity, was spirit of atlanta the corps you were talking about?
VinnyE 1 month ago
Sam- it was Suncoast Sound 1988 from pinellas park florida.
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Alright...back to a few questions before from yesterday...
Name the corps who was the only World Champion in history to win without winning a single caption (and the year).
Black Market Juggler = Bridgemen '82 and '83. That was the famous blindfolded solo.
Which corps and year had the biggest flag(s) in DCI history?
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Hey, I'll take a stab at Joe's question...I'm just guessing for fun.
Blue Devils 1985?
VinnyE 1 month ago
Joe- I could answer that one if we were talking DCA...
Sam Doss 1 month ago
vanguard 04?
VinnyE 1 month ago
Wait a minute- it micht be SCV '91 - the football field sized "Red China" flag they pulled out at the end of the show at finals fo rthe Miss Saigon show. I know it's technically not a flag since it was just a giant silk with no flagpole...
MSeltz 1 month ago
Nope, VinnyE I think that totally counts. SCV 91 FTW
Keyo Wilson 1 month ago
Well...no one has posted the answer to my previous question...I'll help you guys out...
The only corps to ever win without winning a top award for any captions was Star of Indiana 1991. According to their website, the only award they received on finals night was Brass CO-champion, not Brass Champion. Whereas in 1990 and 1992 they were Brass champions overall and 1993 they were percussion champions...
